My day normally starts in the office, reading the latest cyber security news, research, and techniques whilst drinking a coffee – I need to keep my cyber security education current. The cyber security landscape is constantly changing and I need to keep up with what is going on. The risks and threats I was discussing last week could be irrelevant next week as something new comes along. It is also important to be able to respond quickly to a client impacted by a cyber security flaw in a system they use.
I feel my cyber security education is important and I believe that board members and senior managers need to have a knowledge of some of the basics of cyber security so they can make an informed decision as to whether they will do it themselves or get some help.
It is difficult to get these ideas over in a short article and most of us do not have time for a longer article, which is why I write these mini-series, collections of short articles that you can read over one or two tea breaks. Today I have collected them here to make it easier for you to access them.
The articles are not always published here on CyberAwake, I also publish chapters on both Smart Thinking Solutions and Octagon Technology.
Education
I am always updating these primers and adding new series – often these are led by clients asking me a question.
My latest primer is about encryption – it does not have a dedicated page, yet, but you can read all four parts here – Keep It Simple… Encryption (pt. 1) – as the links to the other parts are at the end of the article.
Cyber security Education
Here in no particular order are my current Back to Basics Cyber Security Primers:
Back to Basics – A Password Primer
Devices and Cyber Security – A Primer
Ransomware – A Primer | Smart Thinking Solutions
The Principle of Least Privilege and Authentication, Authorisation and Accountability – A Primer
Better knowledge will allow you to understand your responsibilities regarding cyber security – allowing you to make an informed decision when to do it yourself and when you need to call me to help.
